Richard Erickson, M.D.

To say sports is a passion in Dr. Richard Erickson’s life would be an understatement. Born and raised in Chicago, he has a celebrated history of both being a sports participant and coach. He played soccer and ice hockey in college and was named Most Valuable Player in the NCAA Championship College Division. He coached soccer and ice hockey at Wheaton College and holds a national soccer coaching license.

Dr. Erickson’s practice is concentrated in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery. He has served as team physician to Naperville Central and Naperville North High Schools for over twenty years. He is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

After earning a Master of Science degree in exercise physiology, he went on to pursue Ph.D. studies in this field as well. He received his medical degree from the University of Illinois in 1985, and then completed a first year general surgery internship followed by an orthopaedic residency at the University of Illinois Hospitals and Clinics.

Today, Dr. Richard Erickson is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon who has been with SportsMed-Wheaton Orthopaedics since 1990.
